EA Sports

Fifa Street

FIFA Street launch film. EA wanted to bring back the franchise with something that didn't look like a trailer. We shot a pickup game under an abandoned stadium concourse — concrete, sodium light, eight players who actually play. Handheld, low ISO, no choreography. The grade pulls toward bruised teal and rust. The edit cuts on first touch, not on highlights. It's a film about street football. The game just happens to share the name.

EA had a problem. The old FIFA Street trailers were all flash — neon, distortion, freestyle tricks, music too loud. They wanted the new launch to feel real. The director found an empty stadium concourse in Marseille, brought in eight players who actually run pickup games on weekends, and shot two days handheld with available light. No choreography. No script. The brief was: "make it look like the game already exists."

[ TOUCH ],
Noun
  1. 01. The first contact between a player's foot and the ball.

  2. 02. Also where every cut in this film lives.

The edit cuts on the first touch. Not the goal, not the trick, not the celebration — the moment the foot meets the ball. That's where street football lives. We pulled selects looking for that frame and built around it. Some shots are 12 frames long. Some are 6 seconds of nothing. The rhythm follows the game, not a music track. Grade leaned into what was already there. Sodium lights overhead, concrete on every wall, jerseys in primary colors. We pushed the concrete cooler — bruised teal, almost grey-blue — and let the warm sodium spill bleed into the highlights. Skin held warm against the cold environment. The yellow jacket in the close-up became the only saturated point in the frame. We didn't add it. We just let everything else fall away.

One stadium nobody plays in anymore. Eight players who play every weekend. Two days of footage and a film that had to feel like it was found, not made. Below is what shipped before the trailer dropped.
