Tinder

First Date

Tinder campaign film. The brief was simple: rebuild what a first date feels like, but cast kids instead of adults. We took it literally. Built a retro sci-fi museum on a soundstage, lit it with practicals only, and let 8-year-olds reenact every awkward beat of meeting someone for the first time. The grade leans deep blue. The edit holds the silences. Nobody is selling anything. The whole film is the joke.

The director showed up with one reference: a Soviet planetarium from 1978 and a Tinder screenshot. The set was built in three weeks. The kids were cast in two. Everything you see was practical — the hexagonal portals, the glowing element tablets, the blue floor wash. No green screen, no post compositing, no fix-it-in-the-grade. Just a real set, real lights, and real children pretending they're on a date they don't fully understand.

[ Match ],
Noun
  1. 01. Two profiles agreeing they want to meet in person.

  2. 02. Also what we did with the grade across 47 setups.

The whole film lives in one color. Deep electric blue, edge to edge. Practicals on set did most of the work — fluorescent tubes behind the panels, RGB strips inside the portals, tablets that actually emit light. We graded around what was already there instead of fighting it. The blacks crush. The blue saturates without clipping. Skin tones stay readable but cool. The edit is built around the silences. Kids don't deliver lines like adults — they pause, they look at the wrong thing, they laugh when they're not supposed to. We cut around that. Held the awkward moments for a beat longer than comfortable.
